Hey, it’s your shout Tom! | Local News | Byron Shire News

On any Saturday afternoon you can find two of Byron Bay’s most admired and respected senior citizens doing what they like most – having a bet and a beer with their mates at the Byron Bay Bowling Club.

‘Old Tom’ Edwards, 89, and ‘Young Tom’ Geoghegan, 86, share a common interest in horse racing and that challenging task of picking a winner.

Originally a bricklayer and in RAAF telecommunication during World War II, Tom Edwards came to Byron Bay in 1986 with his now late wife Phoebe.

His daughter Pam used to run a café in town. He has an excellent historical knowledge of the Sydney racing scene, being able to recall past champions and their trainers and jockeys.

Seems like we are on a roll with the beer theme, must be Summer coming on.
